Demonstration project
A demonstration project is a means of promoting innovations and capturing and disseminating best practice through the development and analysis of a live project. This can help build an evidence base to test and support industry improvements.
The Demonstration Programme was established by Constructing Excellence in 1998 having been recommended in the Egan report Rethinking Construction. Participants are predominantly construction organisations that are pursuing an innovative new approach or applying best practice. They use the projects to demonstrate performance improvements, measured using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which are shared with Constructing Excellence.
Constructing Excellence suggest that demonstration projects perform better than conventional projects, which they attribute to the desire by participants to deliver improvements. They also point to the marketing and PR benefits of participating, as well as the opportunity to engage in a network of shared learning and expertise.
